Here are the Most Impressive Volvo Safety Systems

Volvo has always had a reputation for outstanding safety and this continues to be true due to a number of impressive active and passive safety features that make every occupant safer in any type of accident.

Run-off Road Mitigation and Oncoming Lane Mitigation

In addition to the regular lane-keeping assist systems, new Volvo vehicles are equipped with Run-off Road Mitigation and Oncoming Lane Mitigation. The first system helps prevent Volvo vehicles from exiting the paved road when the driver is not paying attention, which could be very dangerous if there is a ditch, a sharp drop-off, or a solid object on the side of the road. The Oncoming Lane Mitigation prevents face-to-face collisions with a vehicle driving on the other side of the road. Both of these systems work similarly by steering the vehicle back in its lane if it detects it is about to exit the pavement or strike an oncoming car.

Connected Safety

One of the most recent safety developments from Volvo is the Connected Safety system, which uses the vehicle’s internet connexion to receive and transmit road information. The information that can be shared with this system includes the slippery road notification and the Hazard warning flashers alert. This means that if a vehicle equipped with Connected safety activates its hazard lights or detects a patch of ice, drivers of other connected vehicles will be notified of the potential danger as they approach.

The Whiplash Injury Protection System (Whips)

Every Volvo vehicle sold in Canada over the past twenty years has been fitted with the Volvo exclusive Whips system. This technology uses a fixed headrest that is always at the correct height for any driver in conjunction with a deformable seat hinge in order to offer a controlled energy absorption in the case of a rear-end collision. This helps prevent injuries to the neck and head such as whiplash, which is a major cause of injuries in traffic accidents, even seemingly minor ones.
